Our life has sure changed in the past week...

Wow. That's about all I can say right now because I'm at a loss for words.

We found out about 8 weeks ago that we are expecting. I had three early ultrasounds in weeks 5-7 and all confirmed one little baby with a nice heartbeat. The first appointment at the OB at about 7 weeks included an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.  The tech did several measurements and everything looked good. Our due date was said to be February 9th, 2011.

Monday of this week I went in for the NT scan to check for signs of Downs Syndrome.  After I laid down on the table and she started the scan the first thing she said was, "You knew it was twins, right?"  I almost fell off the table.  I felt like I was hyperventilating and in complete shock.  She did several measurements and both babies passed the Downs test.  Mas got to the appt late because he was just flying in.  The tech took us back again so we could give him a peek of "the baby".  I wanted him to have the same shocking experience I did!  Besides, I also thought he'd never believe me if I told him.  It's a good thing he was sitting down.  At the end of the appt she said the twins were definitely identical because they were in the same sack.

That day I was so overwhelmed with the news of twins, I really didn't realize the severity of the single sack issue.  That evening I started researching it online and my heart sank at the gravity of the situation.  I had my appt with the OB the next day and she confirmed everything I had learned online. The standard treatment is inpatient at 24 weeks and then hope to put off delivery until 32 weeks.  Wow.

In addition to looking at 6-10 weeks inpatient hospital monitoring and two preemie babies, we are moving to Chicago in less than two weeks for my job.  Unfortunately, I won't be around any friends or family while I'm in the hospital and Mas will be completely on his own with the other 4 kids.  Holy Moly.

All I can say is God is in control and watching out for us. If I had taken any other job, I probably would have no health benefits or short term disability benefits.  So even though I may not see the full picture of why we are moving to Chicago, I'm sure it will become crystal clear at some point. I am so blessed to have awesome medical coverage with this company and a very sympathetic manager.  So far all is well!

We have an appt with a MFM Monday in Minneapolis to confirm the MoMo diagnosis and discuss options.
